The work is the study for the medal made for the Grand Cup of Italy for Airplanes, issued by the Ministry of War in 1922 on the Sesto San Giovanni-Malpensa-Bologna-Ghedi circuit and won by the pilot Arturo Ferrarin. In its final draft, the composition presents a female figure instead of the male figure.
